Wow – this is just so insane. Did anybody see this live last night? I can’t even imagine.
In short, during last night’s snow mobile freestyle finals, X-Gamer Colton Moore got a little too far off his ride and well, that happened. Even more insane was the fact that he came away pretty much without a scratch, given the magnatude of the crash and fall. As you can see he did land in some powder, which obviously saved him from major injuries – but wow! I’ll keep my snow mobile on the ground from now on, not that I ever planned to do anything else with it anyway – haha.
I don’t know if many of you know this, but during my high school and college days (oh goodness, am I dating myself?) I was pretty interested in Oceanography – actually, I still am. I guess deep down I’m an ocean nerd, haha. I bring it up because I came across an article this morning which I thought was fantastic that talked about previously thought “dead” deep sea vents that are just teaming with life:
Scientists found evidence that up to 2,000 different sorts of microbes were living in a small section of a long-expired vent near the East Pacific Rise, a vast seam on the seafloor in the southern Pacific Ocean where two tectonic plates are being wrenched apart. For comparison, up to 8,000 varieties of microbes have been found living on active, hot vents, and up to 10,000 in deep seawater.
Although finding the microbes themselves didn’t come as a huge shock — scientists have found bacteria living in other types of cool seafloor rocks — the revelation of who exactly moved in once the vents went cold was surprising, according to the study authors.
It’s crazy to think that so much of the ocean, we haven’t even explored yet – but so cool to find things in areas that we have explored (in some capacity) that we though were pretty much dead. Like the piece says, it’s not alarming that we did spot microbes, but where they were at.
Okay, I think I filled you all up with enough nerd-dom today, eh? haha
Ugh. That’s all I have to say when it comes to the prices of Digital Camera Batteries at my local electronics store.
Yesterday afternoon I needed to take some pictures of a few items and when I went to do so, I noticed that my camera wasn’t working. Of course, I assumed that the camera battery was dead so I went and charged it. About an hour later I came back and saw that there was still no charge. I cleaned the contacts, made sure it was plugged in and just assumed I did something stupid. Another hour goes by, I come to check on it again – put it in the camera and it’s dead as a doornail. I’m like ugh – so, I throw on some shoes and run down to my local electronics store to pick up a replacement. Oh. My. Goodness. Are they kidding me with their prices? I mean seriously – how do they get away with charging that type of amount? I walked in and walked right out and came home – my head so hot you could have probably fried an egg on it, haha. Anyway, I hopped right on the computer and found myself the exact same battery for almost HALF the price – I kid you not, nearly half the price. I can pretty much get two batteries for the price I would have paid for one at the local big box store. Guess it pays to shop around a bit, eh?
Have any of the Pride & Peril readers ever purchased any woolrich clothing? I absolutely love the stuff! I remember the first time I went to one of their stores when I was a little guy with my Great Grandma, which says quite a bit since I have the memory of a mouse, haha. Anyway, I bring it up because I’m going to be heading up to the snow here next weekend and I’m going to be in need of some warm clothing! I think my big purchase will be a woolrich arctic parka to keep me snug and cozy and in cool night temps since I know we’ll bout out at night quite a bit during the week long stay. I might grab me and my girlfriend a pair (or a few) of burlington socks as well. I actually already own a few pair, but, everybody needs new from time to time, right? I love how soft and cushiony they are. Typical socks just don’t keep your tooties warm enough, which is why I want the burlington ones for the trip.
It’s been a while since my last vacation (which is odd considering I normally took them quite frequently) so I’m super excited for this one. I feel like a kid waiting on Christmas Eve – the days just aren’t going fast enough for me haha. And of course, when it happens, you know it’s going to go by so fast, right? Don’t you hate that feeling?
Oh well – at least I’ll stay warm for my stay! heh
You know what I need? Some Road Signs. Okay, maybe not “road signs” per say, but I need some type of stuff to keep my property safe. As many of you know, I own a pretty robust piece of land that people (who I don’t know) seemingly like to take over as their own from time to time. I was talking to my Grandfather about it recently and he told me I really need to put up some No Trespassing Signs, not only for safety of myself and people that come onto the land – but for legal purpose too, which I never really thought of. Pretty stupid of me, I guess. Anyway, there is a dirt road (that belongs to my neighbor) that backs itself up to the property so I think that’s how/why people are ending up on my land. I think what I’ll do is go talk to him this weekend when he’s around and mention buying Street Signs that let people know where they’re at and hopefully it’ll help keep them out, especially with the newly added no trespassing signs. I tell ya – it amazes me people just don’t think. I mean, I would never knowingly go onto somebody else’s property without their permission – not sure why they assume it’s okay. They’re not really causing any harm of course, but, I don’t want to get into a situation one day where they do and I was too silly not to protect myself legally with something so simple as buying a sign saying to keep out.
Isn’t that the neatest little graphic? I posted it because I wanted to show the importance of social media optimization when used correctly. The many mediums of today’s social networking (along with helpful SEO – search engine optimization) has made such a positive outcome on so many things in today’s world. You really never sit down and think of all the good it’s done, but I really suggest you do some time. It’s pretty impressive once you sit down for a few minutes and tinker with it in your brain. Honestly, social media and social marketing has completely changed the way we operate today – really for the better. Think of all the people you can now “touch” (not literally) with a Facebook posting or Tweet. It’s remarkable, honestly.
What is a ‘mega-apartment’, you ask? Actually, I’m not sure – it’s a term that I just made up (should I copyright it? lol), but either way, I’m going to define it as a HUGE apartment. And that’s exactly what New York Yankee slugger Alex Rodriguez has, well, had, now that he’s sold it.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the New York Yankees third baseman has already received a contract for his 3,500-square-foot condo on the 35th floor of the Rushmore building on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. The listing with Modlin Group says the property was posted for $8 million, so A-Rod is likely making a tidy profit after paying just $5.5 million for the five-bedroom place last February. (Of course, considering he makes close to $30 million a year with the Yankees, that sort of haul is just walking around money to A-Rod.)
I’m not a huge fan of the all white interior – I’d have that place looking like a hot mess in no short time, lol, but I do have to admit my fancy towards his artwork. Anything Marilyn Monroe makes me smile.
Not a bad markup for A-Rod either on the price – solid profit.
